Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is now available for iOS and Android devices.
Square Enix announced in May that the popular mobile game in Japan is headed West but no details were provided as to when its release date will be. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius was suddenly just available for download on June 29 via the Apple App and Google Play Stores.
A turn-based action game, much like others in the franchise, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is described as "entirely new role-playing adventure for the mobile generation."
According to the game's App Store listing, players can join forces with Cecil, Vivi, Vaan, Terra and other legendary heroes from the Final Fantasy franchise, as well as summon legendary espers like Ifrit and Shiva.
And while gameplay will require strategizing, battle features are simple enough to make fights easy and interactive. Simply tap the device screen to launch an attack, use magical abilities and explore dungeons and other areas to find loot and hidden paths.
"Harnessing the power of the crystals, mankind prospered, nations flourished. But just as day gives way to night, that era of peace proved but a fleeting illusion ... So begins a new tale of crystals and the heroes who would save them."
Square Enix showcased Final Fantasy Brave Exvius at the E3 2016 conference, offering fans a sneak peek at the highly anticipated mobile game. It will follow the adventures of two knights from the Grandshelt Kingdom called Rain and Lasswell.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius will follow the free-to-play model, but in-game transactions will be available to expedite game progress. Those who signed up for the game prior to its release via the Brave Exvius website will be given in-game bonuses now that the game has launched.
Players looking forward to Final Fantasy IX can direct their attention to Final Fantasy Brave Exvius in the meantime, but there is no doubt that the latter can stand on its own and is not a mere placeholder for another game. Final Fantasy IX will also be available for iOS and Android devices, but for a limited time only.
Square Enix also has another game lined up in the form of Final Fantasy XV, which will come out on Sept. 30 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Xbox One and PS4 players can get an early look at the game by downloading its demo free of charge. There are also rumors that Final Fantasy XV is headed for a PC release as well.
