It is always a welcome surprise when a favorite handheld manages to offer more than it promises, producing a feature that is far from expected. This is perhaps why Sony's Xperia X is grabbing a lot of attention today, as the phone appears to be water-resistant as demonstrated by a recent video that surfaced on the Web.
It is a testament to the quality engineering of Sony that its Xperia X managed to survive after taking a quick dive into the water. An Xperia X owner filmed the whole thing, showing how the mobile is submerged in water for a few minutes, removed, dried and operated. Surprisingly, the handset performed perfectly after the water test — leaving no one in doubt about the capacity of the Xperia X in resisting water.
Feature Not Marketed By Sony
The water resistance feature is not marketed by Sony for the Xperia X. The Xperia X Performance, however, is built to be water-resistant, capable of handling 1.5 meters for 30 minutes or less — good news for those who love to bring their phones by the pool during the summer. For those who love the beach, though, there is no data with regard to salt water resistance of the phone, so make sure to steer clear of the sea for now.
Although the video showing the water resistance of the Xperia X is welcomed, it is advised that other owners of the same model do NOT try this with their own handsets. Since Sony did not build Xperia X to be water-resistant, there is no telling what depth and amount of time the phone can last underwater. It could be 30 minutes, or it could be 30 seconds — as such, it is still best to keep the phone on dry land. On the plus side, though, you should not have any problems whipping out your Xperia X while in the rain. Remember: submerge at your own risk.
Xperia X Specifications
Of course, the unexpected water resistance capacity of the Sony Xperia X is just one of the pleasant surprises attributed to the handset. Initially released on the second month of 2016, this unit carries a slew of neat features to be expected from a Sony brand. The phone runs on Android with a 3 GB of RAM. It is also fitted with a Qualcomm's Snapdragon 650 — one of the most efficient processors today (though it is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 820). It features a 23-megapixel snapper with a 1080p resolution, allowing users to get some of the clearest and cleanest picture. With a screen size of 5 inches, the Xperia X has a battery life of 67 hours when not in use.
In related news, Tech Times earlier reported Sony’s announcement that its Xperia X Performance and Xperia XA will land first in Canada later this month before heading to the United States market. The company will also release the Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X alongside the two other Sony’s news phones.
