343 Industries let the media know that Halo 5: Guardians' Warzone Firefight expansion will go live at the end of June.
Microsoft recently stated that the tools of Halo 5 Forge will land on Windows 10 in 2016. It should be noted that 343 has zero intentions of releasing a full variant of Halo 5 on PC.
"We have no plans to release Halo 5: Guardians on Windows 10," 343 notes.
The company announced that it focuses its resources on developing Halo Wars 2 for both Xbox One and Windows 10. According to the company, Forge on Windows 10 will make sure PC gamers get a myriad of opportunities for crafting and enjoying Halo 5 multiplayer content.
Not only that, but the created content can be shared on Xbox One, too. It works the other way around, as well. Modes and maps users are building on Xbox One can be shared on PC.
"Windows 10 remains an important focus for the Halo franchise," 343 points out.
343 went on to say that Halo 5's Forge mode on PC will not feature cross-play support with the Xbox One variant. The advantage of Halo 5's PC Forge mode is that gamers can test out the maps they created in custom games.
In the blog post 343 brings novel details about the two next expansions for Halo 5, Hog Wild and Warzone Firefight, respectively. The developer says it will take its time before delivering some "bigger items," which were initially scheduled to come with Hog Wild.
This means a lot of Hog Wild's content will reach Halo fans in the Warzone Firefight expansion, which is set to go live toward the end of June.
343 says Warzone Firefight will open up a PvE mode, which contains quite a palette of maps to choose from, as well as game features. Alongside Arena and Warzone maps, gamers can expect updates to Forge (a new canvas, for example), additional REQs and more.
Looking at the size of the DLC, Warzone Firefight is set to be the biggest free expansion of Halo 5. The company organized an extensive beta testing for the mode and it is already gathering commends. One reason for this is that the DLC focuses heavily on co-op gameplay, making it significantly different from the Arena or traditional Warzone modes.
The blog post promises to reveal more details during the following weeks.
Among the new REQs that are being prepared, 343 showcases a Sword Needler Warthog.
Hog Wild/Warzone Firefight is supposed to be the last free expansion of the title as the free DLC program ends in June. It also comes in a series of important free updates.
Halo 5 got several free expansions before. These were, in reverse chronological order: Memories of Reach (May), Ghosts of Meridian (April), Hammer Storm (February), Infinity's Armor (January), Cartographer's Gift (December), Light (November) and The Battle of Shadow.
Senior Systems Designer Christ Proctor noted in an April blog post all the changes that 343 Industries made to the Halo 5: Guardians campaign mode. These include difficulty boosting and tweaking certain weapons, and you can read all about it in our coverage.
