Logitech takes the wraps off Logi BASE, yet another way to make the most out of Apple's Smart Connector on the iPad Pro.
The new accessory doesn't only hold the tablet in a great angle for viewing apps and media content, but it also charges it at the same time via the Smart Connector. Needless to say, connecting a cable to the slab is out of the picture with this at hand.
Compatibility-wise, it works with the 12.9-inch and the recently released 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
"Last fall we introduced Logi CREATE — the first third-party keyboard compatible with Apple's Smart Connector. With the introduction of the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro, we're excited to continue to deliver innovation — beyond the keyboard — that leverages the Smart Connector and helps you make the most of your iPad Pro, in any room at home or the office," Michele Hermann, VP of mobility at Logitech, says.
As for the dock itself, it sports a rubber bottom that'll hold the tablet firmly in place. Right in that area are the three Smart Connector pins that'll be used to send precious juice to the Apple device, but because of the position of the prongs, the orientation will be limited to landscape.
At the back of the accessory is where the Lightning Connector port is placed dead center. This goes without saying, but that's how it's powered up.
One big downside to the Logi BASE is that the iPad Pro will have to be propped against aluminum material, which may cause scratches to the back of the tablet. That begs the question of why didn't Logitech go with a rubber coating there.
It's already up for grabs at Apple and Logitech, coming in with a $99.95 and $99.99 price tag, respectively. Even though it's a little heavy on the budget, it's quite handy, not to mention that it looks sleek and fits well with the iPad Pro design-wise to boot.
