Musical-themed 'Simpsons' marathon airing Sept. 11

As if you couldn't get enough "Simpsons" after the recent 12-day marathon on FXX that featured every episode ever made, there is another Bart, Homer, Lisa, Marge and Maggie marathon on the horizon.

It was announced that FXX will be airing an eight-episode, music-themed marathon of the popular show starting at 8 p.m. on Sept. 11. If you count yourself as a fan of musicals as well as "The Simpsons," consider this the Holy Grail of quality television.

The marathon is part of a marketing effort for "The Simpsons Take the Bowl!" at the Hollywood Bowl in California that starts on Sept. 12 and runs for three nights.

According to the official "'The Simpsons' Take the Bowl!" website, the hugely-anticipated live-action event will be a "Journey from the Springfield Bowl to the Hollywood Bowl...as the orchestra accompanies your favorite scenes on the big screen. Join the celebration of a quarter century of groundbreaking creativity, with plenty of special guests and a fireworks finale."

The show will feature an impressive list of guests ranging from the original "Simpsons" cast to Conan O'Brien, Weird Al Yankovic, Jon Lovitz and more.

It's only fitting that FXX would host a musical-episode marathon leading up to event, and the network is kicking things off with episodes including "Homer's Barbershop Quartet," "A Fish Called Selma" and five other classics. Each episode features a song that will be performed at the live-action event the following nights.
