Anyone who watched the recent, hugely successful, “Every Simpsons Ever” marathon on FXX should be well aware that the Simpsons are appearing in the season premiere of “Family Guy” on September 28 in a special crossover episode. The forthcoming episode was seemingly advertised during every commercial break of the marathon.
But hardcore fans of “The Simpsons” are more excited about the upcoming “Futurama” – “Simpsons” crossover.
“The Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean announced the crossover episode back in 2013 at the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel. “Futurama,” which was also created by “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening, was canceled last year, leaving the show’s cult following completely devastated.
“They were going off the air, so I thought people would really love it if we had one more chance to see those characters,” explains Jean.
When it came to bringing these two shows together for an episode, Groening jokes, “That was a really tough one to negotiate, because I had to talk to myself.”
The crossover episode is titled “Simpsorama,” and its tagline states, “A show out of ideas teams up with a show out of episodes;” the latter, of course, referring to “Futurama,” which no longer exists.
Entertainment Weekly describes that the episode’s plot is a “Terminator-esque story that involves Bart blowing his nose on a sandwich that he places in a time capsule. When that mixes with Milhouse’s rabbit’s foot and some radioactive ooze, it creates a global catastrophe in the future, prompting Bender to travel back in time to kill Bart and prevent this mega-mess.”
On Thursday, September 4, EW released an image from Fox, providing the first look at the “Simpsorama” episode, which shows Bender threatening Homer. See it here.
September 14 kicks off the 26th season of “The Simpsons.” The show’s recent marathon on FXX inaugurated the channel as the exclusive cable home for "The Simpsons." But new episodes still debut on Fox.
“Simpsorama” airs November 9.
And, if you didn’t catch it during the “Every Simpsons Ever” marathon, here is a look at the upcoming “Family Guy” – “Simpsons” crossover.
