Star Fox Zero for the Wii U is nearly here, and Nintendo has just released a four-minute-long launch trailer to get fans up to speed on what the latest entry in the franchise is all about.
The trailer begins by establishing the game's backstory. Fox and his team are on a mission to save the Lylat system once again from the evil Andross, while also carrying on the legacy of Fox's slain father.
Anybody who knows anything about Star Fox knows the game will feature space battles in the franchise's signature Arwing fighters, but Star Fox Zero introduces a number of additional vehicles for players to take for a spin. The landmaster tank makes a return, as does a new bipedal mech and a utility-focused hoverplane. There will be battles against massive boss enemies as well as other pilots, so players will need to stay on their toes.
Like Star Fox 64, Star Fox Zero will include multiple paths for players to play through, depending on how players complete certain objectives. The game also boasts a control scheme that makes significant use of the Wii U's gamepad controller.
The launch trailer dives into the spin-off game, Star Fox Guard, too. Star Fox Guard is a multiplayer-focused tower defense-style game in which players must use various security cameras in order to stop robotic minions from reaching the center of the defense grid. The digital-only game will come bundled with first-edition copies of Star Fox Zero or can be purchased separately from the Nintendo eShop.
This latest trailer comes just ahead of Nintendo's live stream event for the game tomorrow. That event will first see the premiere of a Star Fox Zero anime short from two of the animation companies behind the wildly-popular Attack on Titan. You can read more about that here. After the short has aired, Nintendo will then begin live-streaming Star Fox Zero so fans can see the game in action. You can watch the full launch trailer below.
Star Fox Zero arrives for the Wii U on April 22 in North America.
