Nintendo Releases New 'Star Fox Zero' Trailer And Reveals Game's File Size

"Star Fox, do you read me? We're under attack from Andross' army. We need your help immediately!"

So begins a new trailer promoting Nintendo's release of Star Fox Zero, a game that follows players as they control Fox McCloud as he pilots his spacecraft through a variety of levels, fending off attacks by enemies and saving the day. Accompanying Fox on his many missions include his fellow teammates, Falco, Peppy and Slippy.

"We'll take the job," Fox says in the trailer. "Andross won't be getting his way this time."

That's followed by Fox in his spacecraft deftly soaring and barrel-rolling his way through enemy attacks.

"An evil force is marching across the universe and the only thing standing in its way is the Star Fox team," the official Star Fox Zero website reads. "Can this group of ragtag star pilots stop Andross and his plans for galactic domination?"

Nintendo stresses that Star Fox Zero is not a sequel to previous games, but a reimagining of the Nintendo 64 version of Star Fox 64.

"Because the game is split between two screens, we feel the gameplay this time is going to feel very fresh," producer Shigeru Miyamoto said to Time. "And thus we thought it would be a good opportunity to go back to the roots of Star Fox. The game itself is not a Star Fox '4' or '5,' and it's not a new spinoff. It really is going back to the roots, and that's where the 'Zero' comes from."

Don't worry about a retread, though: Star Fox Zero will still introduce many new features that should please fans, including the ability of certain vehicles to transform into something else. For example, the Landmaster can become the Gravmaster, which can take to the skies for aerial acrobatics. The latest title in the Star Fox franchise also introduces the Gyrowing, a helicopter that can drop a small robot into tight spaces.

Nintendo also recently released details about Star Fox Zero's file size for players who want to download the digital version of the game from Nintendo's eShop. The title will weigh in at 7514.10 MB, although Star Fox Guard — a new and separate title in the franchise that is sold separately — will come in at 2329.41 MB.

Star Fox Zero arrives for the Wii U on April 22.
