Nintendo is bringing the space battle-filled universe of Star Fox to life in a new anime short set to debut on April 20, and it's coming from some of the biggest names in the anime industry.
"Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins" comes from a pair of anime companies, Production I.G. and Wit Studio, which are responsible for creating the wildly-popular anime adaptation of Attack on Titan. Production I.G. is also know for anime like Ghost in the Shell and Blood: The Last Vampire.
Of course, some anime fans may be upset that the two companies are working on something other than the long-awaited next season of Attack on Titan, but "Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins" still looks great nonetheless. From the brief clip Nintendo teased earlier today, the anime looks fantastic in motion. It manages to retain the high-flying action of the series, while also focusing in on the cast of colorful characters that makes Star Fox, well, Star Fox.
That's likely thanks to Star Fox creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who also helped to work on the project alongside the two anime production companies. Following the debut of the short, Nintendo will be streaming Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard live so fans can get a better look at the upcoming Wii U exclusive games.
Star Fox Zero releases in North America on April 22 for the Wii U. Those who buy the first print edition of the game will also receive a download code for the multiplayer spin-off game Star Fox Guard. Star Fox Guard will also be available as a standalone download from the Nintendo eShop.
The game looks to be one of the most visually-impressive Wii U titles to date, running 60 frames per second the vast majority of the time.
