He-Man is one of those classic '80s cartoon shows that is still entertaining today, albeit in a very different way. Back when it originally aired, it wasn't so painfully obvious how silly everything was, as the delightfully-flamboyant Prince Adam transformed into the macho He-Man to do battle with evil.
Watching the show now, seeing Skeletor, Man-at-Arms and Prince Adam all interact comes off as so goofy that it's hard not to laugh.
That makes He-Man the perfect property to adapt into a Real World-style reality TV show, which is exactly what DreamworksTV has done. The results hilariously speak for themselves.
"On this episode, the challengers all move into Castle Grayskull. He-Man tries to make friends, with little success, Teela finds a way to go viral, and Skeletor faces off against He-Man in the finals of the Challenge Round!!" reads the "episode" description.
Like we said, it follows the framework of the Real World reality series made famous by MTV, where groups of (incompatible) strangers all move in together and then must compete in various challenges. More often than not, tempers flared and emotional breakdowns became common. The Real Masters of Eternia has some of that, mostly in the form of He-Man and Skeletor fighting over a golden panther statue. After all, who wouldn't want to win the grand prize of $40 and some evil wizard mustache wax?
The short even riffs on The Real World's famous opening tagline.
"This is the true story of eight Eternians, picked to live in Castle Grayskull, compete in challenges and have their lives filmed to find out what happens when the Masters of the Universe stop being polite and start getting ... impolite," says the video.
It's filled with all the stereotypes you would expect as well. There's the socialite, the jock and more. The show has also been "updated" for modern times. Characters have cell phones (to better record Prince Adam and Skeletor's confrontations), for example.
This isn't the first time DreamworksTV has highlighted the greatness that is He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. It has also created a compilation of Skeletor's best insults, in the process, doing the world a great service.
