While they may not be quite as popular as other streaming-exclusive shows, there's no doubting the quality of Amazon's original series. Transparent alone is more than enough to justify Amazon's new production studios - it's just that good.
...that being said, it looks like Transparent's reign over Amazon's other streaming series is over.
The Man in the High Castle has always been a highly-anticipated show: the alternative history/drama in which Nazi Germany wins World War II has been on many Amazon subscribers' watchlists for months now. To be fair, the concept itself isn't anything new, but the execution was on another level compared to most of Amazon's other efforts. With series like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead dominating the prime-time TV drama scene, The Man in the High Castle always looked like something a bit more grounded - despite its otherwise extraordinary premise.
It looks like all that anticipation has paid off: just one month after airing, The Man in the High Castle is already Amazon's most popular original series.
The new comes just days after The Man in the High Castle was renewed for a second season - and, while Amazon doesn't release specific viewership metrics (like many of its streaming competitors), the series' renewal suddenly makes a lot more sense.
On top of all that, The Man in the High Castle is just the beginning: Amazon already has a number of other high-profile original series in development, including The New Yorker Presents and Woody Allen's upcoming project. All things considered, it looks like Amazon is set to become a serious contender in the streaming-exclusives fight - with any luck, the studio's future projects will be just as high-quality as its current stable of shows.
For anyone interested, the entire first season of The Man in the High Castle is available now on Amazon Prime.
