April's Free PlayStation Plus Games Include A Former Wii U Launch Title

A new month means new free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers, and this month's selection is certainly an interesting assortment of titles.

Headlining the month is Dead Star, which will actually be launching for the first time when it arrives for free in April. We've known this would be one of the free PlayStation 4 games for a while, but now, we have a few more details about what the game actually entails.

Dead Star is a multiplayer, top-down spaceship shooter that combines elements of MOBAs, RPGs and cooperative shooters into one package. The game supports 20-player multiplayer and comes from developer Armature Studios, which is comprised of key members who helped create the critically-acclaimed Metroid Prime series. There are skill trees, ship upgrades and much more for players to tinker around with, and players will also have to refine their team's strategy in order to emerge victorious against overwhelming odds.

The second free PS4 title next month will be a game with which some gamers might already be familiar. Called Zombi, it's actually a retooled version of the Wii U launch title ZombiU that functions without the Wii U's signature tablet functionality. Players must navigate a zombie infested London in an attempt to survive, with the unique twist of permadeath adding extra tension to the survival horror experience. If you die, you'll become a new character who must then track down your now zombified former self in order to reacquire all your lost equipment.

For PlayStation 3 gamers, disaster survival title I am Alive is going free alongside Savage Moon. On the PS Vita, players can enjoy the tongue-in-cheek bullet hell shooter Shutshimi as well as A Virus Named Tom.

Subscribers have until April 4 to snag March's free games, upon which the games listed above will become free. Last month's games included the community-selected Broforce and Galak-Z for PS4, The Last Guy and Super Stardust HD for PS3 and Flame Over and Reality Fighters for PS Vita.

You can check out the free games coming for Xbox Live Gold subscribers (which includes the Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive) here.
