Samsung could be launching a new version of its Galaxy S7 smartphone, powered by MediaTek Helio processors. The smartphone made an appearance on Geekbench and looks like it could make its debut in Canada.
Samsung just launched its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge and all of the major carriers are trying to cash in on its success by offering buy one get one free deals for the smartphones. The company isn't taking a break from launching new smartphones and we know it's working on a follow up to last year's Galaxy S6 Active, with the Galaxy S7 Active, expected to exclusively be offered from AT&T.
That's not the only Galaxy S7 variant the company is reportedly working on. Samsung Galaxy smartphone fans that prefer smaller devices, like Apple's 4-inch iPhone SE, may get a Galaxy S7 Mini in the near future. A new report reveals Samsung is also planning a new Galaxy S7 variant that's believed to be headed for Canada.
The Samsung SM-G930W8 has been spotted on Geekbench with a MediaTek Helio X25 chip and Helio X20 processor. The Helio X25 variant included 4 GB of RAM, while the Helio X20-based model included 3 GB of RAM and scored noticeably lower than the Helio X25 option or Samsung's Exynos 8890 processor, which powers international variants of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.
The assumption that this MediaTek-based Galaxy S7 is headed to Canada is due to its model number. The "W" in the Samsung SM-G930W8 is how Samsung officially labels the Canadian versions of its smartphones.
While there's no way of actually confirming what this new Samsung smartphone is, some reports believe this could possibly be a Galaxy S7 Neo. For now, we'll have to wait and see if this model gets officially introduced and how Samsung plans on marketing the MediaTek versions of the Galaxy S7.
As always, we'll keep you posted on any additional details.
