Baseball fans and gamers alike may be salivating over the impending March 29 release of MLB The Show 16, which continues to look better and more impressive with every new feature that PlayStation puts the spotlight on.
While Xbox owners won't have the chance to tap their thumbs to that title, they will have a Major League Baseball-licensed title of their own to play this spring — R.B.I. Baseball 16. The title, which will also be available for PlayStation, released its gameplay trailer Tuesday.
"MAKE THE PLAY! The fun, fast-paced, classic baseball game returns with over 1,100 MLBPA players, enhanced graphics in all 30 authentic MLB ballparks, and new fielding moves like dives, wall catches, pump-fakes and more!" the description accompanying the YouTube video says.
While R.B.I. Baseball 16 touts nowhere near the enhanced graphics that MLB The Show 16 has been featuring in its teases, it does seem to more than make up for it with plain, old-fashioned fun. Yet, developers behind the title are proud of the latest version of the series, even boasting that it "features enhanced lighting and graphics, revamped defensive AI and improved batting system" and the ability for gamers to "modify your lineup with complete MLB rosters or play classic R.B.I. Baseball 16-player rosters," while even being able to download roster updates throughout the season.
The gameplay trailer crams as much action as it can in this 41-second window, ranging from a shot to the warning track by Boston Red Sox' Mookie Betts to the same team turning a double-play on their rival New York Yankees. Along those lines, there are also outfielders recording outs and gunning down base runners.
And what would a good baseball video game trailer be without a home run? The gameplay trailer makes sure to include New York Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud hitting a long ball to left centerfield, holding his home run-swing pose for added effect.
The game will be available for digital download on March 29, the same release date as MLB The Show 16, before hitting PlayStation 4 and Xbox One days later on April 5.
Can't wait to play ball with R.B.I. Baseball or just waiting on MLB The Show?
