Sony wants to set challenging goals and aims to achieve them by creating the "Future Lab Program" where it will use technological innovation and user feedback.
The company's new research and development initiative aims to create new lifestyle and user value by launching concept prototypes that will eventually evolve through the help of its open creative environment and open line of communication with the public.
"The program will share concept prototypes with users while still at the development stage, and look to them for inspiration, leveraging their feedback to refine and evolve its projects," says Sony.
Sony will use the "F" and "L" motif as the program's concept logo, which looks like a frame (if the letter L is faced towards the left) where a target project is being made. The company plans to add more letters to the logo frame as it launches a new prototype, with each letter symbolizing the concept of a new research initiative.
The first concept, which shall have the codename "N," will focus on a type of wearable device that has a hands-free interface. Users of the device will have a new way of enjoying music and sound while keeping their ears free from earphones.
"Technology has the power to shape ideas into reality and open the door to new, unseen futures," says Sony on the official Future Lab site. "An exciting future awaits with unbridled curiosity. Throw away conventional wisdom when incorporating cutting-edge technology. Change the future."
Sony will showcase the first project of its Future Lab Program at the SXSW Interactive Festival. The company will unveil a lineup of concept prototypes and techniques at the event, including "N."
"Some of the best engineers in the world are pioneering new devices to make your life easier and better," says Sony on the Future Lab Program's Facebook page. "Join us for Sony Future Lab Program's first visit to SXSW at a special Future Lab experience in 7 days."
Sony will use the booth that bears the name "Sony's Future Lab Program at SXSW." The event will occur on March 12 (Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), March 13 (Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and March 14 (Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The SXSW will take place at Austin, Texas.
