Sony Officially Confirms There Will Be No Xperia Z6 This Year

Sony announced its new Xperia X line of smartphones at the 2016 Mobile World Congress (MWC) and now the company has officially confirmed that there will be no Xperia Z6 this year.

The new Xperia X line includes three handsets: Xperia X, Xperia XA and Xperia X Performance. The Xperia X and the Xperia XA are the mid-rangers while the Xperia X Performance will be the high-end device. In the absence of the Xperia Z6, the Xperia X Performance will be the company's flagship phone.

The Japanese smartphone maker did not reveal anything about the Xperia Z6 at the launch event. However, customer queries regarding the Xperia Z6 on social media has made the company confirm that the highly anticipated phone will not be released this year.

"There will be no Z6. The new X series is under a modified concept that meets the needs of our users even more. You can of course still rely on the latest technology in our smartphones - which has nothing to do with the name. Best regards, your Sony team," says Sony Mobile Germany (translated).

The name of the phone may not matter so much to smartphone enthusiasts but customers will want that the Xperia X Performance is a worthy successor of the Xperia Z5.

The Xperia X Performance has a 5-inch Full HD 1,080p TRILUMINOS display for mobile, which is slightly smaller than the Xperia Z5's 5.2-inch screen.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and 3 GB of RAM will power the device. It is worth noting that other flagship devices such as the LG G5 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 have the same processor but comes with 4 GB of RAM for seamless usage.

The Sony Xperia X Performance has a 23-megapixel (f/2.0) rear-facing and 13-megapixel (f/2.0) front-facing camera.

The mobile phone has a 2,700 mAh battery and 32 GB of internal storage. With a microSD card, owners will have the option to expand the memory to 200 GB.

Most of the new flagships will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the Xperia X Performance also gets the same operating system.

The Sony offering measures 2.8 x 5.7 x 0.3 inches and weighs 5.8 ounces.

Most of the new flagship smartphones come with a fingerprint scanner and the Xperia X Performance also gets one. With a fingerprint scanner, users will be able to keep their handsets secure and unlock them with ease.

While Sony has announced the Xperia X Performance, the company will not release the phone until June this year.
