The Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact are already getting discounts in the United States, just one week after making their debut.
Sony's latest flagships officially launched in the U.S. on Feb. 7, a good while after the devices hit other markets.
Both the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact are powerful smartphones with plenty of neat specs and features to offer, delivering a high-end performance, but the U.S.-bound models come with a caveat.
While the Xperia Z5 lineup in other markets rocks a fingerprint sensor for extra security, for some reason Sony decided not to include this feature in the U.S. models of the smartphones. The company has yet to offer a good explanation for this decision.
Xperia fans were already frustrated with the delay, and stripping the fingerprint sensor off the U.S. models added more fuel to the fire.
The late release and the lack of a fingerprint sensor could have something to do with the new price cuts, as discounts don't typically apply so soon after the product launch.
Regardless of the reason, one thing's for sure. The Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact launched at $599.99 and $499.99, respectively, and now they're available for up to $60 off.
More specifically, Amazon is now selling the Xperia Z5 for $539.99, marking a $60 discount, while the smaller Xperia Z5 Compact retails for $449.99, dropping $50 off its original price tag.
Best Buy is also offering the Graphite Black Xperia Z5 Compact at $449.99, but the White version of the smartphone still costs $499.99. The Xperia Z5 at Newegg also retains its initial pricing, still retailing for $599.99.
All of the abovementioned prices are for the unlocked models of the Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact.
It remains to be seen whether these discounts will attract more shoppers despite the smarthones' lack of a fingerprint sensor, but the new prices do make a more compelling case.
As a reminder, both smartphones pack Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processors, 23-megapixel main cameras and 32 GB of storage space, among the highlights. The Xperia Z5 comes with a 5.2-inch display and 3 GB of RAM, while the Xperia Z5 Compact sports a 4.6-inch screen and 2 GB of RAM.
