Sony's newly unveiled Xperia X series smartphones are already up for preorder in Europe, but the X model comes with insane pricing.
The company just introduced its new Xperia X line at the Mobile World Congress 2016, unveiling three smartphones. The Xperia X and XA are both midrangers, while the Xperia X Performance aims to compete at the high end of the smartphone market.
It seems that the midrange Sony Xperia X and Xperia XA are already up for preorder in Europe, as Amazon Germany jumped the gun and listed the handsets complete with pricing details.
The Xperia X costs €599 ($660), while the Xperia XA is listed with a more reasonable €299 ($330) price tag. As the Xperia Blog reports, the high-end Xperia Performance will not reach Germany, but it's expected to cost €699 ($771) in other European countries.
The price of the Xperia X is notably high, especially considering that it's not exactly top-of-the-line when it comes to specs. It's more of an upper-midranger, and a €599 price tag is quite hefty for this category.
The smartphone features a 5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of expandable storage. The camera department is a bit more impressive, with a 23-megapixel rear camera and a 13-megapixel selfie cam. The Xperia X sports a sleek metal design and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, while a 2,630 mAh battery keeps things up and running.
The €299 Xperia XA, meanwhile, has a 5-inch HD (720p) display, a MediaTek Helio P10 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of expandable storage. The handset further features a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front shooter, a 2,300 mAh battery and Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the software side.
Both the Xperia X and Xperia XA will hit retail availability this summer, but Sony has yet to announce more specific release dates. Amazon Germany may be taking preorders, but doesn't mention any tentative shipping dates either.
The Xperia X Performance, meanwhile, is the higher-end of the bunch and its specifications are slightly more powerful. The smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, but it still has a 5-inch 1080p display like the Xperia X. At least the battery is bigger, at 2,700 mAh. It remains unclear which countries will get the Xperia X Performance, but the UK and Germany are reportedly off the list.
