CTL unveiled the NL6x Extra-Rugged Chromebook for Education, a new Chrome OS laptop that doesn't break even if a 365-pound person stands on it. The new Chromebook is available for $269.
NL6x Features
CTL claims this tough Chromebook aimed toward classrooms is drop resistant up to 70 centimeters, or just a little over 2 feet. It sports a stronger and thicker rear cover which can absorb shocks, a non-slip texture, reinforced hinges, ports and power plug and a water-resistant keyboard with anti-peel keys.
The CTL NL6x works well with a Chromecast 1, so educators can stream videos from the Chromebook to a TV during a class presentation.
Design-wise, it looks akin to a small briefcase and comes with a retractable handle on top of the device to easily carry it and to make sure that it will less likely be dropped.
NL6x Specs
This CTL laptop comes fitted with an 11.6-inch display at a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels. Under its hood, it houses an Intel Celeron N2940 dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. Other specs include a 2-in-1 card reader, 720p webcam, Bluetooth 4.05, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports.
"CTL has combined increased durability with all the great features educators have come to love in the NL6B. With an Intel N2940 Quad Core processor, the NL6x performs up to 70 percent faster than the Dual Core processors with 1 MB cache used by many other popular Chromebooks," says CTL. "Educators love the 180-degree rotating camera with an optional microscope lens that allows students to record science experiments or capture video."
The optional snap-on lens, which can be attached to the Chromebook's rotatable camera, has the capacity to provide 30x magnification. This can be used, for instance, during science experiments to take a closer look at the structure of a particular thing. This laptop also has an anti-glare screen to help minimize eyestrain.
CTL touts that students and teachers can work all day without the NL6x's power cord. Specifically, users can enjoy up to more than nine hours of battery life.
Built-in Apps
This new Chromebook from CTL arrives with built-in Google Apps to provide a way for the students to come up and collaborate on their reports and presentations. They can then share and access these documents through the Google Drive. What's more, they will be ensured that their files are always backed up. In addition, this will also give teachers a way to keep track of their students' progress.
It is worth mentioning that this device comes with a year of accidental damage warranty, but given its tough physique, we doubt owners will need it.
