The Xbox One may be gaining a lot of praise from gamer geeks but we still don't know how fast Microsoft is selling it. The company recently reported a revenue increase of $3.2 billion or an impressive 49 percent jump for the Computing and Gaming Hardware. The increase is due to the Surface and Xbox Platform revenue ($1.7 billion or 34 percent jump), the latter of which is an effect of high Xbox One sales. Meanwhile, Xbox 360 sales decreased for obvious reasons: more people prefer the next-generation Xbox One model.
The Microsoft Surface tablet's sales also increased by an impressive 157 percent, thanks to the number of accessories and devices released.
As for the gross margin of the Computing and Gaming Hardware sector, it decreased a bit despite the $3.2 billion or 59 percent increase in cost of revenue.
The Xbox Platform cost of revenue increased by 72percent or $2.1 billion because of the higher volumes of consoles sold. The total Surface cost of revenue jumped by 51 percent or $970 million.
The number of Xbox One consoles sold was even higher compared to 2013's 9.8 million. Microsoft successfully sold a total of 11.7 million consoles the past few months.
Microsoft is way behind Sony's Playstation 4 in terms of sales. The Xbox One and the PS4 are direct rivals but Sony is the clear winner even before the release of the two gaming consoles in the market.
Earlier in February, Microsoft reported selling only three million Xbox One consoles while Sony already sold twice of the figure, six million Playstation 4 units sold the past year.
A recent report also showed Sony sold seven million Playstation 4's so far while Microsoft only sold five million Xbox One units. Microsoft lost a few hundred millions while Sony is happy with the PS4's profitability according to Sony President and CEO Kazuo Hirai.
