Motorola's Droid Turbo 2 is billed as one of the toughest smartphones in the market, but it seems that the handset may have other problems than shattering.
It may have survived a drop test, but it appears the display isn't that perfect after all. Several Droid Turbo 2 owners turned to Motorola's customer forum to express their dissatisfaction regarding the sudden appearance of a vertical green line running down the screen of their smartphones.
Other users shared their frustration with how the phone maker and its partner carrier Verizon addressed the issue.
Faulty Phone Screens
One user going by the name of "venoran" posted in the customer forum that his Droid Turbo 2 developed the issue only a week after it was purchased. The vertical green line on the screen would disappear only to reappear when the handset was pressed or squeezed. Venoran claimed the smartphone was taken care of and was never dropped.
When he tried to get assistance from Motorola's online support, venoran said that company's customer service advised him to take the matter up with Verizon as the smartphone is a Verizon-exclusive phone and that it was still in warranty.
However, after speaking with a staff member at the Verizon store where he bought his Droid Turbo 2, venoran was told that he must have dropped the handset, causing the issue on the screen. The store pointed out that while the phone was made to be shatter-proof, it was not shock-proof.
Another customer with the user name "JDA9889" wrote that his Droid Turbo 2 showed the same green line even though it was never dropped or scratched.
After taking his Motorola smartphone back to the Verizon store that sold him the unit, the user said he was promised a replacement handset after the manager saw that his phone was practically brand new and in good condition.
JDA said he researched the problem online and discovered that other customers also had issues with their Droid Turbo 2's screen. He tried following a tip he found, and while he was able to get rid of the green line for a moment, things just got worse as there were now two lines running down his smartphone's screen.
Company Response
To their credit, Motorola representatives at the customer forum have tried to address the concerns of the users from their end. The company has also facilitated phone replacements for Droid Turbo 2 handsets that have issues with the vertical green line.
Motorola initially said that the display screen issue may have been caused by the handset being dropped by users. However, many of owners attest that they have not dropped their Droid Turbo 2s and that these were in good condition when the vertical green line started to appear.
Other Droid Turbo 2 users also argue that if the Motorola's drop excuse was indeed valid, then it would prove that the handset's display can still be affected by drops even if it was not shattered.
Motorola and Verizon have yet to issue a potential fix for the Droid Turbo 2 display problem. In the meantime, customers experiencing the same vertical green line issues are advised to contact either one of the two companies regarding a potential unit replacement.
