Motorola released the Droid Turbo 2 handset and observant users noticed that its high-end specs make it very similar to the Moto X Style Pure Edition.
Both gadgets received raving reviews, but the one difference that comes to mind is that the Droid Turbo 2 is Verizon exclusive.
We will compare the two devices to show you what else sets them apart.
Size, Display and Design
The Moto X Style Pure Edition was released first and it measures 6.06 x 3 x 0.44 inches and weighs 6.31 ounces. The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is both lighter and thinner, at 6 ounces and 5.89 x 3.07 x 0.36 inches.
Motorola allows its clients to fully personalize their devices by using the Moto Maker tool. Users may choose between leather and soft silicone for the back, and are able to modify the front panel color or the accents. Both handsets are water-repellant, which is a plus for Motorola overall.
The display is another point where the two smartphones differ.
The 5.7-inch screen of the Moto X Pure Edition is an IPS LCD sporting a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels. By comparison, the 5.4-inch display of the Droid Turbo 2 is AMOLED that sports the same Quad HD number of pixels, but has a better pixel density (ppi) due to its smaller size.
The Droid Turbo 2's display is slightly narrower than the one on Moto X Pure Edition, and its Shattershield technology looks impressive. The screen of the Moto X Style is marked Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which is durable, but not shatterproof.
CPU, GPU, RAM and Storage
Both handsets feature chipsets from the Snapdragon family and carry 3 GB RAM.
The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 sits better in this section, due to its capable Snapdragon 810 chipset, while the graphics rely on the Adreno 430 GPU. The phone comes in two standard variants, 32 GB and 64 GB, but its storage can be extended up to 2 TB via microSD card.
The Moto X Pure Edition has a Snapdragon 808 chipset and an Adreno 418 GPU. The standard storage options are 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, with a possible upgrade via microSD card to 128 GB.
Camera and OS
Motorola equipped both smartphones with the same proficient 21 MP rear-camera and selfie snapper of 5 MP, featuring a front-facing flash.
Android fans were slightly disappointed that the Droid Turbo 2 did not support Android Marshmallow out of the box. Both handsets come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed.
Price Tag and Battery Life
The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 wins this category as well, thanks to the hefty power source of 3,760 mAh. What is more, the battery also sports wireless charging functionality. The Moto X Pure Edition, meanwhile, carries a 3,000 mAh battery without wireless charging support.
The 32 GB, Verizon-exclusive Droid Turbo 2 can be purchased for $624, while the 64 GB model costs $720. The three variants of the Moto X Pure Edition (16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB) have price tags of $399, $449 and $499, respectively.
The quick overview shows that the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 has better specs and upgradability, a tougher display and a prolonged battery life. The only downside is that it comes with the gilded cage of the Big Red carrier.
If being stuck on Verizon for two years does not work for you, there's always the much more affordable Moto X Style Pure Edition that seems almost as capable as the Droid Turbo 2.
