New 'XCOM 2' Trailer Shows That Things Aren't So Great For Humanity 20 Years Later

Firaxis Games, the developers of the upcoming video game sequel XCOM 2, revealed a new trailer Thursday showcasing a bit more of the world 20 years after the events immediately following the previous XCOM: Enemy Unknown game. Things aren’t looking so good for the old Homo sapiens.

The trailer also gives a good look at the Avenger, an alien craft converted to serve as the mobile base of the XCOM remnants. The construction appears to be much the same as the previous game, with the player getting a cutaway view of the various rooms and additions that they can then customize to their liking. For those that haven’t been following along, the sequel’s set to focus on the guerrilla warfare tactics of a previously defeated international agency intended to protect the Earth from aliens. They failed, the world surrendered, and now it’s up to those remaining to finish the fight.

In addition to the trailer, Firaxis and 2K have also announced the XCOM 2 Digital Deluxe Edition is available to prepurchase for $74.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game, the XCOM 2 Reinforcement Pack, and a digital soundtrack. The Reinforcement Pack is specifically notable because it provides a number of benefits and can be purchased for $19.99 by those that don’t opt for the bundled edition.

The Reinforcement Pack itself is an add-on bundle that comes with Anarchy’s Children, Alien Hunters, and Shen’s Last Gift. Anarchy’s Children includes "rebellion-themed content" and customization options, Alien Hunters focuses on new alien-hunting gameplay, and Shen’s Last Gift comes with a new soldier class, mission, and map. Shen’s Last Gift is currently scheduled to release a little later in summer 2016.

XCOM 2 is currently scheduled to release Feb. 5, 2016, after being delayed from the end of 2015.
