The launch of the long-awaited strategy game XCOM 2 will be pushed back from November this year to Feb. 5, 2016, as indicated by an official announcement posted on the video game's official website.
Firaxis, XCOM 2's developer, and 2K Games, the game's publisher, made a short statement regarding the three-month delay of the PC-exclusive title on the games official website.
"We've set a high bar for the sequel and the entire team has been working hard to make sure we deliver a great follow-up to Enemy Unknown. We just need a little more time to make it the best possible game," the development team of XCOM 2 wrote in the statement, adding that the team is looking to include more depth, replay ability and investment in the soldiers of gamers. The extra three months of working on the title will allow the team to deliver these promises to gamers.
There have been speculations by gamers that pushing back the release of XCOM 2 is not only connected to the lofty goals set by Firaxis for the title, with the decision possibly also being linked to the crowded video game launch schedule for November. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is coming out in that month, and Firaxis could be making the wise decision of not having XCOM 2 be released in the same month as the highly anticipated shooter.
In the first installment of the franchise, gamers were tasked with stopping the invasions of aliens. In XCOM 2, the events unfolded with the aliens overpowering the forces of Earth.
Advent, a collaborationist government, created several mega-cities where the idea of the two factions working together for the good of both is being promoted.
XCOM 2 will use procedurally generated maps, with five new classes featured. Gamers will have more options for technology development and soldier deployment, as players will look to strike at alien targets without exposing themselves while gathering enough resources to be used to try to evict the aliens from Earth.
Firaxis, after already revealing the tactical combat gameplay of XCOM 2, recently showed the management side of the title through a 12-minute trailer. In the trailer, gamers are given a tour of the Avenger, which is an alien transport ship that has been repurposed and converted to a mobile headquarters for the XCOM team.
