Xiaomi Mi 4 LTE smartphone owners will soon get another OS option, as Windows 10 is confirmed to arrive for the handset on Dec. 3.
In an increasingly competitive smartphone market, Xiaomi made a name for itself thanks to its attractive devices that pack good specs at low price points. Xiaomi quickly rose to glory and its products are selling like hot cakes, despite the fact that they come with heavy Android customizations.
Xiaomi announced a while back that it was working with Microsoft to offer Windows 10 as an OS option for the Xiaomi Mi 4. The two companies started out with a small selection of beta testers, conducting a trial run to see how Windows 10 would work on the Xiaomi Mi 4.
The trials were apparently successful and it's now time to turn the deal into reality. The software is ready to roll out soon as a public release.
Xiaomi founder and president Lin Bin officially posted a teaser on Weibo, revealing that Windows 10 will roll out on Thursday, Dec. 3, for the Mi 4. It's worth pointing out, however, that only the 4G LTE version of the Xiaomi Mi 4 will get Windows 10, as the 3G model will not get the same treat.
As a reminder, the Xiaomi Mi 4 is a popular handset that sports high-end specifications at a low price point. The handset features a 5-inch Full HD display (1,920 x 1,080p), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and a hefty 3 GB of RAM to ensure a fast and smooth performance.
Other specs include 16 GB of built-in storage capacity, a 13-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel secondary shooter on the front, and a large 3,080 mAh battery to keep everything up and running. The smartphone is currently available for purchase in India for 14,999 rupees, which translates to roughly $225.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 is already in high demand and the option to run Windows 10 will likely boost its appeal even further. The Mi 4, however, is not the first device from Xiaomi to run Windows 10. One version of the new Mi Pad 2 tablet comes with Microsoft's latest OS on board and it generated quite some hype already.
