EA: 'Battlefront' Launch Biggest Ever For A 'Star Wars' Game

Electronic Arts revealed that Star Wars Battlefront had the biggest launch ever for a Star Wars video game, and is also the biggest digital launch ever for the company.

The information was revealed in a blog post by EA Studios executive VP Patrick Söderlund, stating that better than the massive launch was that gamers were having fun with the title.

"You've proven that stormtroopers can actually aim, that the Millennium Falcon does indeed have it where it counts, and that the Force really is strong with Luke," Söderlund said, adding that in only a week since the launch of the game, players have already downed over 15 million AT-ATs.

Star Wars Battlefront is a multiplayer shooter that is based on the Battlefield series technology of Electronic Arts and the Frostbite game engine. Electronic Arts has already confirmed that there will be sequels to Star Wars Battlefront, with the 10-year licensing deal that the company signed with Disney also possibly leading to other games of different genres based on the Star Wars franchise.

It's only just the start for Star Wars Battlefront though, with Söderlund promising new content to be released for the coming months which will provide gamers with new experiences to enjoy being immersed in the Star Wars universe.

Söderlund also noted that the title's first DLC, entitled The Battle of Jakku, is all set to be released in two weeks. The DLC, which will be free to download, will take place almost 30 years in the timeline before the upcoming movie "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

The Battle of Jakku will add two new maps to Star Wars: Battlefront, including one for game modes such as Supremacy and Walker Assault, along with a new game mode named Turning Point. This new mode will see the rebels attempt to capture one of three control points, while the Empire looks to defend these locations.

Söderlund said that the DLC will be the only way for fans to see the events that helped shape one of the major planets in the continuing Star Wars story.

New content will be coming to Star Wars Battlefront well over the future, Söderlund promised, with additions such as new Star Cards and maps.
