Regardless of anyone's opinions on the game's lack of content, there's no denying that Star Wars: Battlefront is an absolutely gorgeous game. If anything, the game will be remembered for bringing one of the most authentic, intricately-detailed, absolutely breathtaking takes on the Star Wars universe to gaming — and, while running at a flawless 60 frames per second, it's arguably one of the best-looking games ever made.
Now, just a week after the game's launch, someone has found a way to make Battlefront look even better.
Martin Bergman is no stranger to the modding community: he's best known for his graphical enhancement mod known as Toddyhancer, the most popular version being the one used in Grand Theft Auto V on PC. While it's still very much a work-in-progress, Bergman has just released a version of the mod for Star Wars: Battlefront ... and the results are amazing.
Simply put, words don't do the improvements justice: Star Wars: Battlefront goes from looking like a very, very pretty game to something that looks like screen shots from Episode VII:
When it comes down to it, most of the visual improvements are thanks to a more complex lighting system: Bergman has reworked much of the game's lighting, such as including new shaders and upgrading Battlefront's lighting bloom. There are a number of other, smaller tweaks, and it all adds up — Battlefront has never looked better.
Toddyhancer does come at a price, however: the upgraded lighting system takes quite a bit of power to run, and Bergman warns that the mod can easily cut users' framerates in half. It's a big price to pay, especially if your machine isn't up to snuff — players will have to decide if the bump in visual fidelity is worth the hit to performance.
That being said, the mod is still in the early stages — there's a good chance that some performance-related tweaks are on the way, and the mod won't require as much power to run. Just don't expect to see it anytime soon: Bergman's GTA V mod still hasn't been officially released, so it could be quite a while before the Battlefront version of Toddyhancer is ready for general use.
If you're fine with looking at screen shots, you can see nearly 70 enhanced pictures over at Bergman's Imgur gallery.
