Mark Hamill Explains His 'Star Wars' NDA, Compares It To Darth Vader Plot Twist

As soon as Star Wars Episode VII and the returning cast members were revealed, fans everywhere have been waiting to see how Luke Skywalker is doing after nearly 30 years. Surprisingly, fans still have yet to see much of anything regarding Luke at all, despite the fact that his return was revealed well over a year ago.

With just a month left before the film hits theaters, speculation surrounding Episode VII is running rampant. Some sources claim that one of the major cast members will die, others claim that Skywalker is the film's true villain - somehow, Luke's role in Episode VII is still a secret. Mark Hamill himself has been surprisingly quiet on the matter - and now, thanks to an interview with GamesRadar, fans know why the star has been so tight-lipped.

Basically, Hamill is being paid to keep a lid on things: a non-disclosure agreement (or NDA) will be terminated if Hamill is responsible for any major information leaks regarding Episode VII, and that means a serious hit to his wallet. What exactly this entails is still unknown, but going by what Hamill said, fans are in for one serious plot twist come Dec. 18:

"It's crazy. This NDA stuff - non-disclosure agreement. Where you're not allowed to talk about stuff. I have something coming out, where there's an amount of money where if it leaks because of me, I don't get that payment. If I keep it a secret until the day it comes out, I get that payment.

"[The Darth Vader reveal] was a mind-boggling plot twist...Now it's happening all over again. I'm not even authorized to tell you that I'm in Episode VII."

Considering the fact that Hamill himself narrates most of the movie's second teaser, it's basically guaranteed that Luke will make some sort of appearance in Episode VII - but now it's clear that he'll have a pretty important role in the film's overall plot. Not only that, but whatever twist Episode VII contains could be on par with what is widely considered one of the best plot twists in cinematic history - considering that Hamill was involved in said plot twist, his words carry quite a bit of weight.

One way or another, it won't be all that long before fans know exactly what Hamill is talking about - Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits theaters on Dec. 18.
