The premiere of Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix is only a few days away and that means that more previews and clips are now consistently turning up to promote the series.
The latest video released for the series is a sneak peek that shows Kilgrave (David Tennant) playing a game of poker and showing that the best way to win is by influencing the minds of those people you're playing against. So Kilgrave doesn't even have to look at his cards: he just tells all the players around the table to fold, which they do.
This clip gives viewers a good idea of what to expect with the character, who uses these mind control powers to manipulate others, including Jessica (Krysten Ritter), getting inside their minds and making them do exactly what he wants. In her past, Kilgrave controlled Jessica's mind for months and made her do things she's not proud of, and he's the reason why she's no longer a superhero and took up life as a private detective instead.

"He's got this extraordinary ability that whatever he tells people to do, they are compelled to do," said Tennant in an interview with The Guardian. "Which, initially seems like a very straightforward sort of fantasy concept. But, actually, it quite becomes - as you start to unpick it - it becomes quite complex, in a moral way. How do you cope with that? How do you tell people are doing things because they want to or because you're asking them to?"
In the comic books, Kilgrave is actually Killgrave (note the change in spelling), who is also known as the Purple Man, because in Marvel Comics, the character is actually purple. As to whether Marvel chooses to go down that path with the Netflix series isn't yet clear, although all promotional material released on the series so far shows a very non-purple man.
Whatever the case, though, Kilgrave creates a problem for Jessica, who is still quite fearful of him, thanks to her previous encounter with the villain. In the series, she has to tackle the problem that is Kilgrave, and perhaps even recruit some of her friends, such as Luke Cage, to take on the evil mind manipulator.
Jessica Jones premieres on Netflix on November 20.
