The half of HP that's in charge of consumer products is forwarding the company's past efforts in fashion-forward wearables with a follow up to the mostly analog Chronowing. This time around, the company has partnered with Movado to create what it's calling Bold Motion.
Movado designs and distributes its namesake pieces, but also bears prominent watch brands such as EBEL, Concord, Coach, HUGO BOSS, Lacoste, Juicy Couture, Tommy Hilfiger and Scuderia Ferrari.
Movado offers two flavors of its Bold Motion smartwatches, which are both unisex and priced at $795. The watches will be available in time for the holidays, the company says.
The Bold Motion watches marry Movado's design aesthetic with HP's smart technology. It does all of the basics – it alerts wearers of incoming calls, messages, appointments and social media updates. It also tracks steps and syncs data with a companion app.
Both versions of the Bold Motion are encased in 43.5 mm stainless steel bodies, with one version offered in black ion-plated stainless steel. The watches keep time by quartz, with the faces shielded with K1 crystal, there are haptic sensors on their undersides and water resistant to 50 meters.
In keeping with the philosophy of its Engineered by HP program, HP's Sridhar Solur, general manager of Wearables and Smart Platforms, said some smartwatches forces wearers to sacrifice "form for function."
"Our legacy of innovation is helping fashion-forward brands infuse technology into their designs to give consumers the stylish timepieces they want, but that are more connected and responsive to the way they live today," Solur said.
The Bold Motion watches weren't the only new smart accessories Movado announced on Monday. For those with a love for Swiss engineering, Movado unveiled its MotionX series of smartwatches that features a his and hers pair of timepieces for now: the masculine Museum Sport and the feminine Bellina.
The pair can track steps and sleep, they have sleep alarms, "get active alarms," coaching automatic world clocks and battery lives of two years each.Movado is excited to show the world how it has merged technology with modern iconic design, said Efraim Grinberg, Movado's CEO and chairman.
"The partners we collaborated with execute smart technology in a user-friendly way understanding that today's consumers have differing needs regarding how connected they want to be," Grinberg said.
