'The Flash' Preview Shows Barry's Plan To Confront Zoom

The Flash picked up speed this week with its latest episode, "The Darkness and the Light." Not only did the team have to discover that there's another version of Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) out there on Earth 2, but they also realized that they need to take on the villainous Zoom and that they need to do it soon.

In a sneak preview of next week's episode, that's exactly what Team Flash decides on and they create a plan that uses Cisco's technology to make Zoom think that Earth 1's Linda Park (Malese Jow) is Doctor Light to lure the villain out of hiding.

Of course, this plan seems pretty dangerous, and even Barry (Grant Gustin) says as much, but it's the team's only chance of getting Zoom to confront them. And, according to this preview, it works:

Fortunately, the Flash is no longer alone: he's got a few superhero friends watching his back, including Cisco (Carlos Valdes), who has finally embraced himself as Vibe and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée), who will eventually become part of The CW's Legends of Tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Barry has a new love interest in Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten), although season one's sneak peek of the future has already unveiled that he and Iris (Candice Patton) will eventually fall in love and get married. For now, though, Iris is out while she mourns Eddie and Patty is in.

"What's important is Iris loves Barry and wants to see him happy," said Patton to TVLine before mentioning Iris' previous relationship with Eddie. "As hard as it was for [Barry], he just wanted her to be happy. So when Iris sees that Barry has an interest in a woman - and a really great woman at that - she's quite supportive and happy for the both of them."

It also seems that Patty might stick around in Barry's life, as well, at least throughout this season.

"They just get along really well, and it's kind of effortless," said Gustin. "They are interested in a lot of the same stuff. And it's an escape for Barry right now because everything else is heavy in his life, other than his relationship with Patty."

Of course, with Barry and Patty working together, what will Joe (Jesse Martin) think of their relationship? According to Martin, he encourages the couple's openness with him, but then sees "them being free with it, and I don't like it."

The Flash airs on The CW on Tuesday nights.
