LG announced the Smart Keyboard for the flagship G3 will be receiving new features when an update rolls out within the month.
The LG Smart Keyboard has already received for admiration for employing adaptive technology, but it's going to give users an even better typing experience with the new set of features that will be arriving with the update. OEM keyboards don't always address the needs of users, but the Smart Keyboard crushes the stereotype by increasing typing speed but limiting mistakes to a minimum. It mainly achieves this by making it possible for users to adjust the Smart Keyboard's height to whatever will feel comfortable, positioning thumbs better and improving overall fit.
By analyzing users' typing habits, the Smart Keyboard will be capable of intuitively predicting words in the coming update. If a certain way of greeting friends is always used, for instance, the Smart Keyboard will be suggesting the greeting the next time a message is to be sent. Take note though that the ‘Application-based Text tone Suggestion' feature will be able to distinguish between applications so predicted words for texts and emails will be different depending on user activity.
As for the ‘Emoji Suggestion' feature, the Smart Keyboard will be capable of recommending emoticons based on specific words. Type "love" and a heart symbol will be recommended.
Other features to be expected when the update comes include the ‘Next Word Suggestion' where an analysis of users' typing styles over time will allow the Smart Keyboard to suggest next words to be used to make typing more convenient and ‘Bilingual Word Suggestion' where words will be automatically detected and changed to the intended language without needing the user to switch between languages manually. ‘Real-time Path Input' recommends words as a user traces a finger over the Smart Keyboard without any lags.
"While Smart Keyboard is just one piece of a larger UX, it's a significant feature in that it improves upon a very fundamental feature that all smartphone owners do - typing on a cramped keyboard," explained CEO and president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, Dr. Jong-seok Park. Since the beginning, the G3's development has always prioritized learning about how consumers use smartphones. The coming update is the perfect example showing the continuing effort LG is putting into improving user experiences.
