The Battle of Jakku was a decisive Star Wars conflict in the ongoing war between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire, following the events of Return of the Jedi.
Very little is known about the battle itself, except that it resulted in multiple Star Destroyers crashing into the desert surface of the planet Jakku. (In case you haven't been following along: Jakku is a major setting in the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.) The forthcoming video game Star Wars Battlefront is promising to not only reveal what happened in that battle, but to let players take part in it.
"The Battle of Jakku" is a DLC pack for Battlefront that's free to everyone who buys the game. Basically it would have been included on the game disc, but it includes spoilers for The Force Awakens, so EA Games and developer Dice delayed this campaign's release until a time closer to the movie's arrival. That's our theory, anyway.
Regardless of why, "The Battle of Jakku" looks downright jaw-dropping in this all-too-brief teaser. Among other things, it reveals that the titular battle took place 29 years prior to Awakens, which puts it about a year after Return of the Jedi. But the real emphasis in the trailer is on the visuals and audio, which may make Star Wars' fans' eyes pop out.
Just wait until the camera looks up...
Star Wars Battlefront will be available to own on Nov. 17. "The Battle of Jakku" expansion pack will be ready for you on Dec. 8. Gamers who preorder Battlefront will get access to "Jakku" one week early.
