Nintendo's First Mobile Game 'Dragalia Lost' To Shut Down in November — Why?
A Tech Times report back in March told us that gacha fantasy RPG "Dragalia Lost," the first mobile game from Nintendo, is formally being discontinued. This report was verified by the Japanese console manufacturer and game developer Cygames. Recent reports tell us that Nintendo has confirmed a date for the said shutdown.
Early Success
"Dragalia Lost" is an action role-playing mobile game developed by Cygames and published by Nintendo. Since its Android and iOS release in Sept. 2018, the mobile game has gathered positive reviews.
This RPG from Nintendo boasts appealing graphics, it follows a color palette that is pleasing to the eyes, and its art style might have paved the way for other games of the gacha and fantasy adventure genre.
Also, the game features a simple but immersive heads-up display which is a big reason why the game hit big back in 2018 and 2019. In July 2019, Nintendo revealed that the game grossed over $100 million in sales.
Nintendo and Cygames are yet to disclose the reason behind the game's planned deletion. However, the dominance of other fantasy adventure gacha games like Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact could be a reason the game companies might not point out.
Furthermore, Nintendo is currently under a semiconductor shortage crisis that forced staggering sales slumps in the first two quarters of 2022. Despite deciding to reduce packaging to address supply concerns, focusing on the Switch and its Switch game titles might be Nintendo's other way to cut costs.
"Dragalia Lost," though, is not Nintendo's sole mobile game title. Pokemon GO and Mario Kart Tour are two games that are still making headlines even years after their initial launch.
Nintendo, Cygames Announce 'Dragalia Lost' Shutdown.
A recent Engadget report informs us that Nintendo has finally announced the mobile RPG's exact end-of-service date. In an announcement marked as important, the two entertainment companies confirm that "Dragalia Lost" will be ceasing its operations on Nov. 30, at exactly 1 AM Eastern time.
Through the same announcement, the Dragalia Lost team thanked its user base for their support, "We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has played the game since service began."
The announcement also reminded Dragalia players that diamantium, its in-game currency, is no longer available for purchase starting Aug. 30. The Dragalia team also added that its in-game Upgrade Essentials & Packs will no longer be available on Oct. 21. Players were also told that they can still spend their in-game currencies on other game features.
All of these can only be enjoyed in a very limited time because the game will no longer run on the said end-of-service date. The game did not mention any refund scheme.
At the moment, a "Dragalia Lost" special event is still underway. This event is called "Scars of the Syndicate," and it is set to end on Sept. 9.
