Ryan Adams has recently finished recording his version of Taylor Swift's "1989" and has previewed some of the songs on his Instagram account.
Oh how the tides have turned.
Who would ever have thought that Adams would be the biggest Swiftie?
In an interview, the 40-year-old former Whiskeytown frontman expressed his admiration for Swift's music, which jumpstarted with "White Horse," from Swift's 2008 album, "Fearless."
"The first time I heard it I got chills head to toe. I remember feeling shocked by her voice, shocked at how clean that song was. I like stuff that sort of penetrates through my regular consciousness and hits me where I'm not looking. That's usually stuff that's a little darker ... Her voice does this thing. It just goes through all my bulls**t detectors and right into my heart and soul," Adams said.
Through his "1989" journey, Adams claims to have realized that his work is comparable to being in "Ghostbusters," and Swift's singles are Shakespeare. When confronted with the over-generosity of that statement, Adams replied, "Well, look, those songs are popular for a reason. She's a popular artist for a reason."
The Christmas of 2014 saw Adams spending the holidays on his own, following his divorce with singer-actress Mandy Moore, his wife of almost six years.
During that time, Adams listened to "1989" and thought that he "heard more."
"It wasn't like I wanted to change them because they needed changing. But I knew that if I sang them from my perspective and in my voice, they would transform," he shared.
On Aug. 5, Swift was mentioned in the following tweet by Hasief Ardiasyah.
"Apparently @TheRyanAdams is recording cover versions of every song on @taylorswift13's "1989." Give me something good!"
Contained in the tweet was a link to Adams' photo of the lyrics of the Swift's "1989" track, "Welcome to New York."
"Guaranteed saddest version of Welcome to New York ever - or your tears back," Adams captioned.
The 25-year-old actress was stunned by the news. She, of course, took to Twitter to express her shock. "@hasief @TheRyanAdams is this true??????? I WILL PASS OUT," she replied to Ardiasyah's tweet.
As if that wasn't crazy enough, Adams responded, and what follows is possibly the cutest fangirl and fanboy moment in Twitterverse history.
"Yes. Just finished Style. Badass tunes, Taylor. : ) We're sandblasting them and they're holding steady," Adams said.
"@TheRyanAdams Cool I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight or ever again and I'm going to celebrate today every year as a holiday. I'M CALM," Swift replied.
Oh what a time to be alive.
