Best Buy customers can now enjoy free shipping with no required minimum spending beginning on Oct. 25.
The company, which has its headquarters located in Minneapolis, had typically required customers to spend a minimum of $35 for them to enjoy free shipping. Its latest announcement assures that customers no longer have to worry about reaching a minimum amount in their shopping since the company is removing such type of requirement at least until Jan. 2, 2016.
The decision to waive its free shipping requirement indicates how the company intends to compete aggressively against its rivals that include Amazon, Target and Walmart. It also shows how it understands the shopping needs of its customers more than ever after hearing a survey result conducted by the National Retail Federation.
The survey, which involved 7,276 of polled opinions from consumers, revealed that 47 percent of them believe that free shipping or shipping promotions play an important role in their decision-making on where they would go to do some shopping.
Apart from the free shipping offer, Best Buy is also launching a holiday-themed sales event on Nov. 7 where they will offer "Black Friday-like deals" to consumers. The same type of event was held last year although that time, it has catered solely to customers under their Elite and Elite Plus loyalty groups.
It was also in 2012 when Best Buy dropped its shipping fee the last time for all its customers.
Currently, the retailer is enjoying a sort of a renaissance after going through some rough years in sales as a result of the significant shift of consumers into online shopping. Among its counter measures to revive growth include a shops-within-a-shop strategy wherein products from famous brands such as Apple and Samsung can also be bought in their stores.
In early August, Best Buy started to sell the Apple Watch which makes it the first big national retailer to stock the wearable. As a way to retain its mass-market image, the company also decided not to keep the pricey Edition model among its stock.
During the holiday season of the previous year, Best Buy earned a surprising sales increase of 2.8 percent which it immediately followed with a notable increase in the first two quarters of the present fiscal year.
