Bethesda Softworks is one of those game developers that just doesn't really believe in preorder bonuses. So when it comes to Fallout 4, don't expect to get any extras for buying the game before it comes out.
Of course, retail stores want you to buy it early, so this leaves them having to scramble to come up with something that would make for a good bonus item when you preorder the game from them.
However, Best Buy probably has the best, and weirdest, preorder bonus of all: buy the store's Fallout 4 Gold Bundle and get a season pass to all the game's future DLC plus a pair of socks featuring the Fallout boy.
Yes, you can get Fallout socks for preordering the game, which makes this probably the best holiday present for those Fallout fans on your Christmas list.
The Best Buy Fallout 4 Gold Bundle retails for $89.99, which is basically the base $59.99 price for the game plus $29.99 for the DLC season pass. That makes the socks free, so it's probably not a bad preorder bonus. But it's definitely not as nice as some preorder bonuses that other games have come up with, such as statues and art books. But Best Buy had to come up with something and so, socks it is.
Although Best Buy also includes a season pass for DLC for Fallout 4, no details have emerged yet about what that DLC might include, although Bethesda promises that it will deliver bang for players' bucks.
"Since we're still hard at work on the game, we don't know what the actual DLC will be yet, but it will start coming early next year," wrote Bethesda on its blog. "Based on what we did for Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim, we know that it will be worth at least $40, and if we do more, you'll get it all with the Season Pass."
Bethesda offers two versions of Fallout 4, including the standard and collector's edition. The standard edition only includes the game, of course, but the collector's edition includes a replica Pip-Boy. Of course, that collector's edition sold out quickly, but for players really wanting to get their hands on it, there's always eBay.
Fallout 4 releases Nov. 10 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
