A woman with cancer for five years just got her dream wedding.
Jennifer Hutcheson and Allen Korth said their wedding vows at a house near Fenton on July 6, 2014. With the growing afternoon humidity and heat making Hutcheson's frail body feeling weak, they still celebrated love and shared it with their family and friends.
The "Just married" sign hung off the bride's wheelchair. It was exactly how Hutcheson wanted her wedding to be on a Sunday afternoon. While the ceremony moved indoors, the 30-year-old esophageal cancer patient exchanged rings and vows with boyfriend of nine years, Korth. The guests remained outside hearing the ceremony through an audio hookup. There were two large speakers as Hutcheson was not able to walk outside.
Nonprofit organization Wish Upon a Wedding along with friends and family helped plan their wedding. The couple started dating when he was 40 and she was 21 years old. When Hutcheson turned 25, she was diagnosed with cancer. At the time of the wedding, she has gone through seven chemotherapy rounds, three radiation rounds, surgery and weight and hair loss but Korth never left her side.
"In truth you guys are living these vows as a couple every day and you have been nine years of love and devotion and a true friendship and just a genuine affection for each other," officiant Leslie Toldo said. "Your forever surpasses time and it will endure infinitely and not just for you, but for all those people whose lives you've inspired with your love and your happiness Jennifer." Relatives and friends shared tears and hugs by the home's front lawn near the reception tent.
Wish Upon a Wedding Michigan chapter organized the quaint event. The group organizes weddings for couples that have one of them terminally ill. The wedding planners, DJ, photographer, videographer, caterer and other services were donated. It was the chapter's third wedding.
Hutcheson is battling esophageal cancer for five years and it has metastasized across her body. According to Wish Upon a Wedding's spokeswoman Laura Davis, the doctors have already told her that she had between two and six months to live.
