Amazon Expands One-Hour Prime Now Delivery Service To San Francisco Bay Area, San Antonio

Amazon announced on Thursday the expansion of its one-hour delivery service Prime Now to members in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Customers in most San Francisco and San Jose neighborhoods like Mountain View, Cupertino and Potrero Hill will be able to purchase items from toliet paper and milk to Kindle Fire tablets from the online retailer with the promise their goods will arrive within one hour. Amazon announced that the Prime Now delivery service will also roll out throughout Palo Alto and Silicon Valley over the next 24 hours.

"Prime Now is our fastest delivery option ever. With Prime Now, you can skip a trip to the store and get the items you need delivered right to your door in under an hour," director of Amazon's Prime Now service Stephenie Landry said in a press release. "Customers love the convenience of one-hour delivery and we're excited to expand in California, bringing Prime Now to the Bay Area."

Customers in the Bay Area can download the Prime Now app that is available for iOS and Android to use Prime Now; however, it will cost $7.99 for the one-hour delivery that is available from 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

Members can instead opt to use their free two-day shipping that is part of their annual Amazon Prime membership that costs $99 per year. Amazon Prime also offers its members unlimited free same-day delivery in 16 metro areas (as well as other perks like access to Amazon Prime Instant Video, Prime Music, and Prime Photos).

Amazon also announced that Prime Now has also expanded to San Antonio, and is now available from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. Amazon already has four fulfillment centers in Texas, and the one-hour delivery service is already available in Dallas, Austin (where the most common items purchased include gummy bears) and Houston.

Prime Now has already rolled out in 17 metropolitan areas worldwide including Los Angeles and Orange County, Calif.
