Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, slated to hit theaters in 2017, may be the last installment of the live-action film franchise based on Capcom's popular zombie games, but that may not be the final time we see this series on the big screen.
Marza Animation Planet is working on a CG movie based on the Resident Evil video game franchise, the Japanese animation studio announced Thursday. Takashi Shimizu, famous for directing the Japanese horror film Ju-on: The Grudge and its American remake, will serve as executive producer. Takanori Tsujimoto, known for the Japanese action movie Bushido Man, will direct the Resident Evil movie. The movie will be written by Makoto Fukami of the Pyscho-Pass anime series.
There aren't many details available on what this new movie will be about, although Kotaku reports that it will feature Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers, all of whom appear in the Resident Evil video game franchise.
This won't be the first feature-length Resident Evil film to be made in CG. Capcom and Sony Pictures released Resident Evil: Degeneration and Resident Evil: Damnation in 2008 and 2012, respectively. However, this new CG film will reportedly not be a continuation of these past movies but a reboot.
