There has certainly been no shortage of Resident Evil games recently. This year saw the release of Resident Evil HD and Resident Evil Revelations 2, with an HD remake of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 2 on the way.
Of course, that's not even mentioning the multiplayer-focused Resident Evil: Umbrealla Corps, which was recently announced at this year's Tokyo Game Show.
Even with so much Resident Evil on the way, the real question on everyone's mind is when we might hear word on Resident Evil 7. The game has never been officially confirmed, but it is almost certainly happening. Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation recently sat down with numerous developers for its 600th issue, and one of them just so happened to be the producer of the Resident Evil series. Of course, one of the questions asked was about the inevitable Resident Evil 7.
"We're currently not at a state to talk about it ... but please stay tuned," producer Masachika Kawata tells the magazine (via a translation from Silicon Era). Kawata also addressed a question revolving around the idea that Resident Evil as a franchise has slowly moved away from its horror roots into more action territory.
"Since there's been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way," he says. "And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I'm thinking about it and also preparing for it."
When asked about the possibility of a Resident Evil 3 remake, Kawata says the hurdle is high, but that Capcom likes to respond to fan demand as much as possible. Capcom recently announced it would be making an official Resident Evil 2 remake, in large part because of fan demand for the game, as well as an impressive fan-made remake.
So, there you have it: no Resident Evil 7 news yet, but it may be coming soon. Let's just hope the final product turns out better than Resident Evil 6.
