Skybuds Wireless Earbuds Ditches Bluetooth To Become ‘Truly Wireless’

Alpha Audiotronics has unveiled a pair of "truly wireless" earbuds called Skybuds. The startup company launched its Kickstarter page on Oct. 13, 2015, and just after four hours, it immediately became a Kickstarter Staff Pick.

The problem with most wireless earphones nowadays is that they still involve wires that connect one earbud to the other. Although they're Bluetooth compatible and partly wireless — as they don't use a cable to connect to a player — they still bother some music listeners because of their design, not to mention that they still cause cord pulls sometimes.

Alpha Audiotronics wants to resolve the issue with Skybuds, an absolute gamechanger in the wireless headset industry. With over 250 backers and $89,000 of support, the startup's campaign is starting off strong.

Skybuds is a pair of Bluetooth earbuds that's made of sweatproof material, and it comes with a sleek protective phone case that's equipped with an embedded battery pack and has two insert slots on its sides for the headset to fit in. The Skybuds solution, as the firm calls it, will offer a lot of benefits, such as hassle-free charging, longer-lasting battery life and quality sound. Alpha Audiotronics even considered the tip sizes so that the headset will fit everyone.

Charging the Skybuds is easy, as the protective case is fitted with a USB plug and can juice up the earbuds, the smartphone and the case itself simultaneously. Also, the earbuds come with some nifty functions. When listening to music, users can click on a button on either earbud once to play or pause. When someone is calling, users can press once to answer, hold for a few seconds to ignore and press once during a call to hang up.

At first, the Skybuds headset seems easy to lose because of its design, but Alpha Audiotronics has a solution for that: the Skybuds app. This ingenious software doesn't only function as a battery indicator but an earbud finder as well.

Similar to the technology used in hearing aids, the pair communicates using Near Field Magnetic Induction (NFMI), allowing the earbuds to both receive an audio stream.

"Each earbud has a coil, the primary earbud modulates a tight, low-power, non propagating, localized magnetic field which is measured by the receiver coil in the other earbud," Alpha Audiotronics posted on its Kickstarter page.

It will be available for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, and as of now, there's no word if it will support other devices.
