He may be humorously called out for killing and abusing quite a number of man's best friend in his films, but director Wes Anderson's next project will be a stop-motion animated film all about dogs.
It will, of course, not be Anderson's first foray into the world of stop-motion animation. His 2009 animated movie based on the novel by Roald Dahl, "Fantastic Mr. Fox," was nominated for numerous awards, featured the voices of several Hollywood A-list celebrities, and showed off his signature storytelling style.
Anderson reportedly took a less than conventional approach to the medium of stop-motion animation when he helmed "Fantastic Mr. Fox." He recorded his actors in forests, tunnels, stables and other places, keeping them out of a sound proof studio. Although the majority of the film used stop-motion animation, Anderson also took advantage of a myriad of different animation techniques to tell the story.
In an interview with Henry Selick, director of many stop-motion animated movies like "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "James And The Giant Peach," and "Coraline" — he was approached by Anderson to work on "Fantastic Mr. Fox" (it did not pan out since "Coraline," his self-declared 'baby' was green-lit) — it was revealed that Anderson would record himself acting out the scenes for the animators to emulate and send it to them via iPhone.
No details are known yet about the new dog-themed movie that Anderson has been confirmed to be attached to. If his past work is any indication though, we look forward perhaps to seeing incredibly detailed backdrops, and possibly the voices of some actors who have been featured in Wes Anderson films past like Bill Murray (he already voiced Garfield the cat, why not a dog too?), Cate Blanchett, Owen Wilson and Anjelica Huston.
