The Microsoft Surface Pro and the Apple iPad Pro have been one of the most-awaited tablets of this year. Both these tablets have been launched, but they are yet to hit the shelves.
Let us see at some of the specs of the giant tablets.
Display and Screen
The iPad Pro sports a 12.9-inch Retina display with 2,732 × 2,048 pixels resolution and 264 ppi.
The Surface Pro 4 has a slightly smaller 12.3-inch PixelSense display with 2,736 × 1,824 pixels resolution and 267 ppi.
Processor and RAM
The base model of the Surface Pro 4 has Skylake Core processor, which can be scaled up to i5 or i7. An A9X processor powers all models of the iPad Pro.
Apple has not officially revealed the RAM of iPads but Adobe accidentally listed that the iPad Pro has 4GB of RAM. The Surface Pro 4 also comes with 4GB of RAM as standard, which can be upgraded to up to 16GB.
Camera
The latest Surface tablet is equipped with a 5MP front facing and an 8MP rear-facing camera.
The iPad Pro comes with a 1.2MP FaceTime camera and an 8MP iSight camera.
Storage
The iPad Pro comes with 32GB or 128GB on-board storage option. There is no option to increase the memory with the use of a microSD card.
The base model of the Surface Pro 4 has 128GB of internal storage. The Microsoft tablet is also available in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage versions. The storage capacity of the Surface Pro 4 can also be increased with a microSD card.
Stylus
For the first time Apple has unveiled a stylus called Apple Pencil that can be used with iPads. However, customers will have to purchase the Apple Pencil separately, which will be priced at $99.
All models of the Surface Pro 4 will come with a free stylus.
Operating system
The iPad Pro will run on the latest iOS 9, while the Surface Pro 4 will run on the new Windows 10 operating system.
Apple has more than 725,000 apps for iPads in its App store. On the other hand, the Windows Store has more than 669,000 apps in total. Microsoft does not indicate which apps are optimized for tablets.
However, the Surface Pro 4 runs on full Windows, which means users can access millions of desktop apps as well on the latest tablet.
Price and Availability
The base model of the Surface Pro 4 will have a price tag of $899, which is $100 higher than the base model of iPad Pro that will cost $799.
Customers can buy the Surface Pro 4 at the end of October, while the iPad Pro is expected to start shipping November this year.
Both the Surface Pro 4 and the iPad Pro 4 are packed with top-notch features that will appeal to many tablet owners.
However, some specs of such as a microSD card slot, bigger storage option, upgradable RAM and better front camera may give the Surface Pro 4 an edge over the iPad Pro.
