Microsoft held its Windows 10 devices press event on Tuesday morning to unveil the line-up of its latest devices, including the long-awaited release of its first-ever laptop.
The Surface Book might have stolen the show, but the company also unveiled the new Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphones, Microsoft Band, and provided an incredible new demo of HoloLens technology.
Here's a roundup of everything Microsoft announced in case you missed it.
Surface Book
Just when we thought Microsoft was done, the company announced its laptop, the Surface Book. The Surface Book weighs in at 1.6 pounds and features a13.5-inch display.
The speedy convertible is equipped with a sixth-generation Intel Core processor, a Core i7 CP, Nvidia GeForce GPU, and high-speed GDDRS memory, and boasts a stated 12 hours of battery life.
The best part? The user can take it apart at its fulcrum hinge to be able to use it as a clipboard.
The Surface Book retails for $1,499, and will be available for preorder on Oct. 7 and for purchase on Oct. 26.
Surface Pro 4
Microsoft also revealed the new Surface Pro 4, which features some upgrades from its predecessor, including a 30 percent performance bump, 16 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of storage.
The device has a bigger display — from 12 inches to 12.3 at 267 PPI and a new Type Cover that's thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Microsoft also made updates to the Surface Pen, which now has an eraser, a button to contact Cortana, and 1,024 different levels of pressure. The new Surface Pen will come in five colors with interchangeable tips.
The Surface Pro 4 is available for preorder starting on Oct. 7, and will go on sale starting on Oct. 26 for the retail price of $899.
Lumia 950 And 950 XL
The company revealed the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. The Lumia 950 is equipped with a hexacore processor, the 950 XL with a Octacore processor, and they have 5.2-inch and 5.7-inch OLED display screens, respectively. Both are powered with Windows 10. They both have Glance Screen Technology, which allows the user to see the time, texts, emails, and other notifications by just looking at the screen without having to tap a single button or unlock the device.
The handsets are also equipped with liquid cooling technology and can capture 4K video. The Lumia 950 and 950 XL will be available in November.
Microsoft also announced a new Lumia 550, which was outshone by the higher-end phones. The Lumia 550 has the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor and will retail for $139. The device will roll out in select European markets in December with more to follow.
Project X-Ray AR Game With HoloLens
One of the most interesting parts of the event was during the live demo of an augmented reality game Project X-Ray using the HoloLens.
Powered by Windows 10, Microsoft HoloLens was shown in action as a player battled a robot invasion from their living room while being able to freely move about in the mixed-reality game. Players "weaponize" holograms that are called "holographic gauntlet" which move with the player within the parameters of the room.
Project X-Ray will be available in the first quarter of 2016, with the developer's kit priced at $3,000.
Microsoft Band
Microsoft also announced updates to its fitness tracker, the Microsoft Band. The device features an improved design that curves around the wrist, and includes a barometer to track elevation and VO2 (maximum volume of oxygen) max, along with its ability to track everyday activity, calories, and sleep.
The Microsoft Band will also work with other apps such as Uber or Lose It!, its new weight loss app partner. The Microsoft Band is compatible with Windows Phones, iOS and Android, and will retail for $249. The fitness tracker is available for preorder today, and will be released on Oct. 30.
