Microsoft Announces Surface Pro 4, Featuring 1 TB of Storage And A Revised Pen

Microsoft has announced the successor to the Surface Pro 3, the Surface Pro 4, featuring a new design, larger display and improved specs.

The device is being hailed by Microsoft as the thinnest and most powerful core PC ever, sitting at only 8.4 mm.

The display on the device received a significant update, being enlarged at 12.3-inches from 12 inches, without the actual size of the device being enlarged at all. The display sits at 267 pixels per inch, with five million pixels being included in the display in total.

The Surface Pen has also been updated, offering 1,024 levels of pressure, as well as a tail eraser on the stylus, which was previously not included. The pen also features a button to summon Cortana, and can be used to, at any time, write on Web pages. The Surface Pen will come in five colors, with interchangeable tips for different uses.

The Surface Pro 4 is, according to Microsoft, 30 percent more powerful than the Surface Pro 3. It also features 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of on-board storage, which is far more than any other tablet offers.

Along with slimming down the device, Microsoft has added a new feature that allows users to connect it to a docking station, giving them four USB 3.0 ports, two 4K DisplayPorts and an Ethernet port.

A new Type Cover has also been introduced for the device that is lighter and thinner, and offers a new keyset that better replicates a laptop keyboard. The Type Cover is compatible with the Surface Pro 3, and also offers a fingerprint reader.

The Surface Pro 4 is available for preorder starting on Oct. 7, and will go on sale starting on Oct. 26. The device will cost $899.
