The science fiction/psychological thriller/horror movie about what there could be after death is getting resurrected by "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" director (the original 2009 Swedish flick, not the Daniel Craig Hollywood version) Niels Arden Oplev. Flatliners was originally released in theatres in 1990.
It starred actors who were then still rising stars and have now become big Hollywood movers, including Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon and William Baldwin as medical students playing a dangerous game of life and death until, as these things are wont to do in horror movies, things go horribly wrong.
The group of students begin to experience hallucinations and physical manifestations of childhood sins and traumas after their multiple near-death experiments. They start to become unsure if what they are seeing is still real and what they may have brought back with them after flat lining on the table.
Although the original movie won an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing and was at number one in its opening weekend, it only made a modest $60 million at the box office and has never been exactly hailed as a gem of the genre. However, it has gained a small cult following in the decades since its original theatrical release. According to an exclusive reveal from Bloody Disgusting, Ben Ripley will pen the remake.
It has also been reported that Ellen Page is in talks to star in the new Flatliners. Variety also exclusively had the scoop that Michael Douglas along with Laurence Mark will be producing the reboot.
Currently, Page is doing the media rounds to promote Freeheld, a gay rights drama which she produced, as well as Into The Forest which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
