'Jetpack Joyride' Releases 'Back To The Future' Mode That Allows Players To Fly In The DeLorean

As the 30th anniversary of the science-fiction and comedy classic film franchise Back To The Future comes this October, Halfbrick Studios is participating in the celebration by releasing an update to mobile game Jetpack Joyride.

The update will add a Back To The Future theme to Jetpack Joyride, which can be played by gamers for free for the whole month of October.

The new game mode for Jetpack Joyride is a time trial session that is set in Hill Valley, the home of the film's main character Marty McFly. Gamers will be tasked to collect Flux Capacitors, with each one collected adding 5 seconds to the remaining time. However, when players collide with any other object as they fly around on the screen, the time they have remaining will decrease by 10 seconds.

Collecting the Flux Capacitor will also allow gamers to unlock a total of three much-loved characters from Back To The Future, namely Marty McFly, the mad genius Doc Brown and the bully Biff Tannen. Once these characters are unlocked, they can then be used as costumes when gamers go back and play a regular Jetpack Joyride game.

Once October ends, gamers can still play the Back To The Future game mode for Jetpack Joyride, but they will have to pay $9.99 for it. In addition to gaining access to the game mode, players will also be able to acquire the Amped up '85 Guitar jetpack and the DeLorean Time Machine and hoverboard vehicles, along with the background of Hill Valley.

The Back To The Future theme was introduced by Halfbrick Studios through a post on its official blog, where the announcement is accompanied by a short video that shows Barry Steakfries, the main character of Jetpack Joyride, auditioning for the role of Marty McFly. Barry shoots several memorable scenes found in Back To The Future, which should prove to be nostalgic for fans of the film and hilarious for the fans of Barry Steakfries and Jetpack Joyride.

Back To The Future fans that are looking to re-live the magic of the film franchise can do so as Universal Pictures teamed up with Amazon to offer Amazon Prime subscribers free viewing of the three films in the franchise for free.

Universal Pictures will also be releasing a special Blu-Ray set for the Back To The Future films on Oct. 21, which will contain a new short film featuring Doc Brown as Christopher Lloyd reprises the role.
