2015 is a great year for Monopoly fans.
The venerable board game has had or has coming new editions based on major pop culture franchises like Game of Thrones, Jurassic World and The Avengers this year. But one of the most anticipated Monopoly games is a special Back to the Future edition that comes in a unique yellow box made to look like the hard case Doc Brown stored his Plutonium in.
Thanks to Toy Chest News, we finally have an official release date for Back to the Future Monopoly. September 30, 2015 is when you'll be able to get your hands on this one, which is sure to be highly sought after by collectors.
We also know more about the contents of the game. The board itself is made up of properties that will be very familiar to fans of the movie trilogy, such as Cafe 80s, Doc's Lab, the McFly house, and the local theater. A unique twist for this edition is that each block of properties — aka the two or three spots that share the same color — are all based on the same property, but during different time periods. As for the coveted Boardwalk spot? What else could that go to than the ever-important Clock Tower.
Chance and Community Chest cards have been replaced with "Past" and "Future" cards, while the two utilities are now the Flux Capacitor and Mr. Fusion. Even the paper money is styled based on the time machine's date/time readout.
One of the most unique and collectible parts of any Monopoly game is the set of die-cast metal game pieces, or tokens as they're more commonly called. One of them in particular is destined to be fought over by sneaker enthusiasts. That's right, it's the Nike Mag auto-lacing shoes that Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future, Part II. Nike has reportedly been working on bringing this shoe out of the movie and into reality, and hopes to sell Mags before the end of 2015.
Also immortalized as Monopoly game tokens are the DeLorean time machine, Doc's dog Einstein, Marty's cowboy hat, the Hoverboard, and the Hill Valley Clock. You can see them below.
Back to the Future Monopoly is expected to sell in stores for $40.
