'Back In Time': Watch The First Trailer For The Upcoming 'Back To The Future' Documentary

Back to the Future is the definition of classic. Despite being made in the mid-80s, the film is somehow timeless: its depictions of the various time periods may be romanticized and ridiculous, but everything about the movies stands up to the test of time. Even the black sheep of the franchise, Part III, manages to be a cut above most other comedies out there.

Considering that Back to the Future turns 30 this year (yes, it is that old), it only seems right to go back and take a look at one of the biggest pop culture films of the '80s — and that's where Back in Time comes in. The documentary from director Jason Aron is shaping up to be one of the most in-depth, behind-the-scenes looks at the franchise ever released, as well as a tribute to the franchise's long-lasting influence.

It sounds like a lot for a documentary to handle, but judging by Back in Time's first trailer, it looks like the team behind the film is headed in the right direction. This won't be some boring, two-hour history lesson with zero entertainment value, either: Back in Time is looking like it could be one of the most lovingly crafted documentaries in recent memory:

From the moment Michael J. Fox starts talking about his chance to "date" the Princess of Wales, it's easy to see that Back in Time is being made by people who truly love Back to the Future. Sure, it's easy to get wrapped up in the story about the DeLorean vs. the Mustang, but if there's any one thing that the trailer absolutely nails, it's the feeling that Back in Time is a love letter to a franchise that helped shape a lot of people's childhoods.

Thankfully, Back in Time isn't all that far off: expect to see the documentary hit Blu-Ray and DVD on October 21. As if that isn't enough, you can also catch the Back to the Future 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray collection on October 20.
